Climbing Shoes

Our Climbing shoes fit closer than street shoes. Most climbers go half a size to a full size down, more for a slipper, less for a flat beginner shoe.

Fit matters more than the number. You're looking for no dead space at the toe, heel locked in, toes flat to a gentle curl depending on the shoe.

Flat shoes stay comfortable for long sessions, all-day routes and learning footwork. Moderate shoes add precision and some power for all-round sport and bouldering.

Aggressive shoes pull your toes into a hooked, powerful shape for steep bouldering and overhung sport, and give up comfort to do it.

Start flat or moderate, and go aggressive once steep ground is your focus.

Velcro is quickest on and off, so it suits gym and bouldering sessions where the shoes can come off between climbs.

Laces give the most even, adjustable fit across the whole foot, better for odd foot shapes and long routes.

Slippers have no closure: fast and sensitive, good for cracks and setting, but they stretch more, so size them more snug.

A flat or lightly downturned shoe with velcro, in a snug but not painful fit.

You want a shoe you'll keep on while you build technique, not one that punishes you. The Striker and Havoc are built for this.

The shoes we stock use synthetic uppers, which hold their shape. Expect a quarter to half a size of give at most.

Size them to fit from the first session rather than counting on a break-in to save a too-tight pair.

Leather shoes stretch further, closer to a full size, but there are few in this range.

Resole once the sole rubber wears thin, before you break through to the rand, the rubber strip wrapping the toe.

A holed rand or a splitting upper means it's past resoling. A resole costs a fraction of a new pair and brings back most of the grip.
