Your first rope takes a beating. Lowering off the same gym anchors week after week, top-roping laps, hanging on a project while you work out the moves. Skinny ropes wear out fast under that kind of use. The Expression 9.8 is built to last through it.
At 9.8mm it's thick enough to handle constant lowering and catches, and still light enough to take outdoors when you start leading. It runs smoothly through belay devices and feels predictable in your hands, which is what you want while you're building confidence on the sharp end.
It comes untwisted, so you skip the kinks of a fresh coil, and the middle mark makes setting up a lower or rappel easier.
Good for: gym climbing, top-roping, sport climbing, and anyone after a hard-wearing all-rounder.
60m or 70m? 60m suits most gyms and crags. Pick 70m if your local routes are long or you want spare length. Not sure? Message Mitch before you order.
